Lift Off

I've written previously about Scala but to be honest I haven't given it a second look since last summer. But this reimplementation of Twitter using the lift framework in only 884 lines of Scala code is pretty damn cool and is probably just the motivation I need to get off my ass and start writing some programs in it.

Prance with the Horses, Skittr with the Mice

It's becoming clear to me now that we're on the cusp of a pretty major paradigm shift with regards to computer architecture (single, multi, many-core processors) which will have an interesting trickle-down impact on programming languages. I think I've seen Erlang mentioned in more posts in the past year than C++. Makes me wish I'd paid closer attention to what Robby Findler was so passionately trying to impress upon us hapless grad students (we chose Java over Scheme, wtf?) a few years back. I wonder if he's checked out Scala...
